There are several rebates available for first home buyers from state and federal governments. These subsidies are intended to encourage first home buyers to get into the market. Every state in Australia offers some form of bonus or rebate for first home buyers, generally in the form of stamp duty rebates or exemptions. These vary from state to state and can consist of anything from complete exemption to discounted rates for particular incomes or house prices. The biggest windfall for first home buyers is the Federal Government's First Home Owner Grant scheme (FHOG). The scheme was introduced in July 2000, by the Federal Government and involves a tax-free grant of $7,000 to first home buyers.
